Overview

Maternal-fetal medicine physicians specialize in the diagnosis, treatment, and care of expectant mothers and their unborn babies who may be at high risk for health problems or complications. Home to the WNY Regional Perinatal Center, Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo has board certified maternal-fetal medicine specialists who work together with a multidisciplinary team of pediatric surgeons and pediatric medical subspecialists in the management and consultation of high-risk pregnancy.

  • Preconception counseling
  • Genetic evaluation by a certified genetic counselor
  • Prenatal screening and diagnosis (first and second trimester)
  • Ultrasound screening (targeted anomaly exams, nuchal translucency) including 3D/4D
  • Management of multiple gestation
  • Diabetic monitoring and testing
  • Diagnosis and management of fetal anomalies, e.g. congenital diaphragmatic hernia, abdominal wall defects, lung lesions, twin transfusion syndrome, skeletal dysplasia
  • CVS/amniocentesis/PUBS/fetal transfusions
  • Consultation of chronic maternal medical conditions
